Tom Figgins - Imagesound Sessions

Wednesday 17 February 2016

0

Sessions time again and a trip to Shoreditch earlier this week to check out Tom Figgins at The Sawmill.

At 19, working alongside producer Bob Cranham (whose previous artists included Newton Faulkner) he penned his debut EP Your Place from his bedroom. His second release Wake Up went on to achieve critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic. This culminated in a chance meeting, and eventual management signing, with an industry stalwart in the shape of Nick Stewart: the man who signed U2 to Island Records.

Since then Tom can boast years of relentless gigging and song-writing as well as signing to Nick Stewart’s own record label of Man in the Moon Records. And he is still only 23 years old. Not for him, though, the ‘hipster hang out’ side of the industry – he is too musically mercurial and industrious to be bogged down with simply ‘being seen’ in the right places. Instead Tom has been developing and honing his sound in front of audiences the length and breadth of Britain, including collaboration at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe whereby he co-wrote and performed in The Duck Pond which also featured his track ‘Mother’. More recently he has been working in the studio with Matt “Urby Whale” Owens, bass player from Noah And The Whale.

You can hear two songs from Tom on the Imagesound Sessions, his new single ‘Giants Played in Woods Like These’ and ‘Let Your Roots Grow’, and you can hear Tom in Caffe Nero, Crowne Plaza, Marriot and Renaissance Hotels.

Charlie Hole - Imagesound Sessions

Friday 4 December 2015

0

It's Friday, or it least it was when we posted this... so it's time for another Session this time with the super talented Charlie Hole.

A few years ago in a British radio interview, none other than Rod Stewart hailed a new emerging musical talent who had written a “beautiful song” and intimated he was destined for great things. Around the same time, Andy Hill, three-time Ivor Novello award winning song-writer proclaimed his astonishment at the sheer quality and maturity in the young man’s songs. Amazing accolades from no less than 2 global music legends. Yet Bournemouth born singer-songwriter Charlie takes all of this very much in his stride.

Given his achievements to date, it is hard to believe that Charlie is still only 22 years old. Since the age of eleven, he has been writing music and has been playing his songs across the length and breadth of the UK. This experience has nurtured his talents, allowing him to continuously grow and mature as an artist, taking his inspiration from legends such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Paul Simon and Randy Newman.

A random meeting with record producer Jim Cregan (Rod Stewart, Katie Melua) led to a series of recordings at Jim’s studio. Over the next year, working on weekends and school holidays, they recorded an album of Charlie’s original songs called ‘The Joy Of A Caged Bird’. Then, when he was 18 he secured a credible publishing deal with Rondor/Universal – an incredible platform for a burgeoning and talented young musician. But just to be clear, Charlie is not doing this in search of fame or fortune. His aim is simply to be a respected songwriter and to perform his songs live.  His rare gift for lyrics and his subtle, evocative vocals have given him this opportunity.

Imagesound Sessions - FRANKMUSIK

Tuesday 29 September 2015

So this is a very special Session for us, we're revisiting our very first artist from back in early 2014, Frankmusik, aka Vincent Frank, vocalist, producer and keyboardist based in Croydon, South London.

I first heard Frankmusik way back in 2009 when I stumbled across the 'Better Off As 2' video and at the time remember thinking this guy has a big future, 5 albums later and collaborations with Far East Movement, Colette Carr and Mohombi, Frankmusik can consider himself something of a Pop veteran.

His debut EP, Frankisum was released on Apparent Records, a label he co-founded with David Norland, in 2007. He was then later signed to Universal/Island and released his debut album 'Complete Me' which hit the UK Albums Chart at Number 13.

Since 'Complete Me' Frankmusik has released a further four albums, two of which have been acoustic versions of an earlier release and show a stripped back maturity to Frankmusik's musical and vocal ability and defnitely worth a listen.

Frankmusik performed a new track from his seventh studio album, 'For You' which is set to be released in October 2015 this is 'Mistress'.

2015 is set to be a big one for Frankmusik, just remember, you heard it here first!
